Regarding California
With a Heavy Heart but Hoping Against Hope
Dear Friend,
We both reside in California, the most beautiful state in the Union, but one that, sadly, is also bankrupt, fiscally and spiritually. We have two U.S. senators and a Speaker of the House that embody the most ungodly streams. Our State legislature is a web of selfish and worldly interests, and our Governor has no moral ballast. The latter is doubly sad because three years ago he regularly shared prayer requests with the person that led him to pray the sinner’s prayer. He was doing well…until he turned away from God and forfeited his spiritual destiny as Governor.
Many churches are struggling and the few that appear to be doing relatively well seem to focus their energy and resources primarily on themselves since there are so many needs and dangers all around. As a result, there is no moral voice capable of commanding the attention of the state. We are adrift.
The way California goes, so goes our nation. And this is why I am writing today with an unusually heavy heart to sound a spiritual clarion call to approach the throne of God NOW in the spirit of 2 Chronicles 7:14.
If ever there was a time for us, His people, to humble ourselves, turn from our wicked ways and seek His face, it is NOW. In fact, as optimistic as I normally am, I am afraid we may forfeit our spiritual destiny if we do not act RIGHT AWAY. And it would be so easy for us not to since we are constantly bombarded with gloomy forecasts and doomsday news. Like Gideon, we easily find ourselves focused on our own survival, doubting the very miracles promised in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that are the only way to turn the situation around. We are talking about our state, our families, our future.
The temptation to keep on drifting is very real. I must confess I am no stranger to it myself, but we must resist it AND DO SOMETHING. Better yet, we must call God’s people to prayer. The time is NOW. If not now, when? If not us, who?
On July 18th we are calling every man and woman of God to fill the Bay Area with prayer in the spirit of 2 Chronicles 7:14. By faith, we have rented a boat with a capacity for 600 passengers to prayer-sail the Bay for four hours, joining hearts, hands and voices to cry out to God for mercy for our state. We are calling men and women, young and old, parents and children, to set aside half a day to do what God told us to do in order for Him to do in return what He promised. The cost is only $60 and includes lunch. You must register by calling 1-800-835-7979 or on-line at harvestevan.org/sfte. Please, RESPOND NOW. If you sense urgency in my message you are sensing right. It is URGENT!
Also, the days prior to the prayer cruise (beginning on July 14th) we are conducting transformation outreaches in San Francisco, Salinas and Vallejo. The last two cities have Christian Mayors who have invited Jesus into the government, and in San Francisco a group of devoted leaders is trusting God for a new, godly Mayor when elections come in 2011. Not everything is lost, but these embers of fire need to be fueled by prayer. Go to our website to find out more and consider joining us for at least part of the time.
I sincerely and prayerfully look forward to hearing from you today. Time is of the utmost essence. Please, for the sake of our state and for the sake of our children, join us in approaching God’s mercy seat. California is too beautiful to be forfeited to the devil by doing nothing when concerted prayer can change so much!
