Though the election is over, it is quite clear that America still stands at a crossroads with the future of her power and policies still hanging in the balance. There is rampant concern about which side of the scales will prevail. The answer is not found on either side of the political aisle, but somewhere else. That is why I am inviting both Democrats and Republicans to join with me in 40 days of highly focused, totally undiluted blessings over President Elect Obama and his transition team. Democrats / Republicans

It has taken me longer than you to hear this summary from God. As the Samaritan woman at the well. Some Christians worship in faith and some in truth. We will only be as God intended when we worship in both faith and truth.

Democrat or Republican - who cares
Reply #221 on : Mon May 25, 2009, 11:16:54
While all are in agreement or disagreement with Ed Silvoso regarding Joseph's party affiliation - Please note that God is neither Democrat, nor Republican - nor any other political party that has been, is now, or will be - because there is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free in God. How have we lost sight of that. It is so strange how Christians want to put their beliefs on God and not accept the truths of God's Word. Let's us join together and pray for our President. However, I must admit that I am appalled at the apparent 'hate' the ultra conservatives have promoted - it is shameful and un-Christ-Liike (the meaning of Christian).

With what we should be concern is was Joseph a man of Truth - and are we people of Truth - not people of our own opinions!

Are you yet praying for President Obama - if so, please send me your information. It would be nice to know of others who are obeying God's Word and praying for those in office.

Comment on Joseph being a Democrat
Reply #219 on : Fri February 20, 2009, 12:25:02
I don't agree with you... especially about Joseph. He was raised to a prominent positon in a land that was NOT a democracy. He was used by God to "preserve many people alive"(Gen 50:20). He never kept his faith to himself..others recognized God was with him. His children were named with names which showed his gratitude and thanksgiving to God. He made his brothers promise to bring his bones with them when they left Egypt. Joseph sounds like a a true man of God to me and I think you have discredited him terribly.

As for not judging, your comments regarding President Bush and Dick Cheney leave me somewhat bewildered.

We are called to speak the truth in love..and that requires judging and discerning .

May God have mercy on our nation. It has deeply fallen morally. Let us pray for the wisdom and movement of God upon our nation, our president, for peace....and for the courage, when opportunity presents itself, to speak the truth in love.

Speaking peace over Obama

Dear Lord, I ask of You to be near President-Elect Obama. I may or may not approve of his policies, but God, help me to set aside my own political opinions to speak peace over Barack Obama and his administration, in the blessed name of Your son, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Grasping at straws perhaps
Reply #211 on : Mon December 08, 2008, 00:21:42
I do not agree with this analogy from Scripture; Joseph a Democrat and Solomon a Republican. It seems to be grasping at straws, to build a nice straw house that will stand up to nothing. The story of Joseph is very interesting especially as it relates to human volition and the Sovereignty of God but I don't believe this here statement is anywhere close to the message God intended us to get out of it. I would say if this is the message or even a message that God intended, “where in the Bible does it say how Joseph went so wrong?” Where was Joseph told not to marry the "daughter of a pagan priest?” Where does it say he turned humanistic in his public lifestyle? Where does it even hint he failed in the “long-run” or there was so much a greater purpose he was supposed to accomplish? The Bible is obviously candid regarding Solomon's failures. Although it speaks of his great wisdom and wealth, his name is commonly used adversely. Nobody should believe that either Daniel or Joseph were without sin or had wisdom that was infallible. Yet according to the Bible, they both trusted in the true and living God as being ultimately in control. Show me where in the Bible it says otherwise. They were tried in different ways though. I don't believe the premise that either Solomon or Joseph would be easily elected in either one of our main political parties either. However it doesn't matter because neither one were elected to there positions. Solomon inherited the throne and regarding Daniel and Joseph, they were appointed to their position by the king. There appointments were ostensibly a direct result of their connection to the true and Living God, which was made evident even to the kings they served under. On a deeper level, their personal faithfulness played a pivotal role in getting them there. But the point is, the true and Living God is sovereign over those kings in question regardless of their faithfulness to HIM. So my assessment is that from the following statement down, this document has true value worth considering:

“The presidential election of 2008 is the first one in recent history in which both candidates went out of their way to prove their Christianity to the electorate. I do not question their stated convictions, but now that Obama is the incoming President I am as skeptical about his chances for long-term success as I would be if McCain had been elected. They are both good men with a sense of destiny that, unfortunately, is anchored in them and not in God. What is needed to solve the crisis long term is a Kingdom mentality and revelational anointing to see things from God's perspective. It is not enough to have a President who professes to be a Christian.”

If this document had started here, I wouldn’t have been so distracted by what I consider to be an absolutely unfounded analogy from scripture. It seems funny to me to ask for God’s perspective on things and then interpret the Bible in the light of the current political perspective.

Praying for the President

My wife and I join your 40 day prayer focus. As african americans, we have seen how hatred for past transgressions have surfaced in the black church, regarding this election. Romans 13:1-4 tells us that all authority is ordained by God, and as such, we pray for the president and his staff. Not the "black" president, but the president, period.

Blessings on Obama
Reply #206 on : Wed December 03, 2008, 20:07:36
Yes, of course, we must pray for Obama that God will pour out the rich blessings of His grace upon him, knowing that with God all things are possible. This is what Scripture clearly requires of us. At the same time, we must not fall under the error of Balaam; we cannot bless what God has not blessed. These are perilous times and much hangs in the balance.

Response to: Why do blacks vote liberal?

As a young black man, I believe I have an understanding of why many blacks vote liberal. In addition to feeling alienated by Republicans, the root of unforgiveness and bitterness toward 'rich, white America' is a stronghold in the black community. We must first cross the color line in the body of Christ and bring reconciliation and healing before we expect the majority of the black Church to line up with the word of God in the voting issues.
Bless!

Responding to: Gerald Breyer, post #12:

There are probably others who can answer your question better than I, but basically it goes back to Nixon, the republican ran on "law and order" because the country was in an uproar over the civil rights movement, the democrats after they lost, saws the opening and aggressively went after the black vote, while the republicans where happy to alienate them. So the short answer to yrou question of why are most black democrats is because the Republican party didn't want them (maybe we do now). On a similar note, although the democratic party has sought the black (and hispanic) vote they have not necessarily wanted their participation in the leadership and decision making process, that is why their socially conservative values are not reflected in the party platform...

Weeping and Blessing
Reply #174 on : Mon November 24, 2008, 09:44:51
Actually, this has always been the charge to the Church along with making disciples of every nation. As I meditate on the words from Ed's article -- I hear weeping. Weeping of our nation in great peril. Weeping for our history of cursing and not blessing each other. Not sure, but I weep over generational and cultural mindsets in America that just seem to be concerned with being and looking right without regarding true biblical application of God's Word to our diverse nation and current challenges. We must embrace every aspect of blessing the president-elect, his #2s, and the Church during these called 40days and beyond.
